Signs an Opening Needs Attention
Look for daylight around a closed door, peeling caulk, cracked trim, soft wood, water stains, difficult operation, rattling, or condensation where it did not occur before. Drafts around the frame may be related to weatherstripping, sealing between the jamb and framing, alignment, or deterioration. Fogging between sealed glass panes usually points to the glass unit rather than surface humidity.
Do not seal over damp or soft material without finding the moisture source. Water can enter above or beside an opening and appear somewhere else. A useful repair starts with understanding whether the problem is the unit, its installation, the surrounding finish, or water traveling from another location.
